Sensor for monitoring the conditions on frozen or snow covered expressways in winter
The winter weather sensor for monitoring the road frozen condition and the road surface sensor for monitoring the snow sensor were developed by Yamada Giken Co., Ltd.. The technology of the sensors is indispensable for effective snow clearance and anti-freezing operations on roads. These sensors provide real-time information of snow and freezing on the road and enable energy-saving control of the snow-melting equipment. The car-mounted sensor for measurement of the residual concentration of the anti-freezing agent (salt) contributes to anti-freezing of roads.
These products are used for maintenance of express ways, general roads, and railways. (Yamada Giken Co., Ltd. received "Kyoto Venture Award" in 1998, "Snow and Ice Technical Award" in 2003, and "Special Prize of The 3rd Fukui Science and Technology Award" in 2008, and was selected as one of "300 Monodzukuri SMEs Nationwide (METI)" in 2009.
Snow melting and anti-freezing by the epoch-making heat quantity measurement were realized.
The current sensors used for automatic operation of the snow melting equipment sense only falling snow. Such sensors excessively worked even if the snow falls only a little with little snow coverage, and they stopped when snow stopped falling. It was troublesome. In addition, they could not judge the freezing condition. To solve such problems, Yamada Giken Co., Ltd. developed the sensor for measurement of snow fall and freezing by the heat volume, enabling the optimum snow-melting and anti-freezing operations depending on the amount of the snowfall and freezing.
By utilizing the various monitoring value of sensors, the information to help judgment of the degree of danger is transmitted to the road administrators on the Internet. The technology to provide information to car navigation systems is under development.
