energy device for electronic devices including cellular phones and notebook
computers. Tanaka Chemical develops and manufactures positive electrode
materials which are the key materials for primary and secondary batteries
such as nickel-metal-hydride batteries and Lithium-ion batteries.
In particular, Tanaka Chemical is leading the world in developing the tech-
nology to make spherical nickel hydroxide particles for positive electrode of
nickel-metal-hydride batteries.
Tanaka Chemical's global share of positive electrode materials for nickel-
metal-hydride batteries is about 70% ,the largest in the world. Tanaka
Chemical is supplying the products to major battery manufacturers in domestic and international markets. ( Tanaka Chemical was selected as one
of "300 Monodzukuri SMEs nationwide(METI)" in 2006.)
By making nickel hydroxide particles as spherical, void space can greatly
be reduced when the particles are filled into limited space and thereby
increases density by 20% compared to conventional (fragmental) product.
This technology contributes to making batteries with higher capacity.
Tanaka Chemical established powder control technology enabling freely
control powder characteristics such as size and shape of particles and
crystalline character(crystal alignment) etc. by stabilizing reaction con-
ditions of generation and growth of each particle.
