Direct joining technology of shape-memory alloy
Eyeglass brand with the world's first technology
Masunaga Optical Mfg. Co., Ltd. has developed an eyeglass frame, made of a shape-memory alloy. The "KOOKI Sports Flex" has the following features:
1. 8 to 10 times higher elasticity than the current eyeglass spring material
2. Abundant flexibility and restoring force to the original shape
3. Little frame deformation
Thanks to these features, KOOKI Sports Flex is indestructible and comfortable to wear, and has become one of the major products of Masunaga Optical Mfg. Co., Ltd..
The world's first "direct joining technology" of the nickel titanium alloy and different types of metal is utilized for development of the eyeglass frames. The "direct joining technology" and "partial heat processing" of the nickel titanium alloy have been utilized in different types of industries such as production of the dental bridge wires.

World's first direct joining of shape-memory alloy and different types of metal
Before, it was impossible to weld nickel titanium alloy with other metals because the materials became brittle. In developing eyeglass frames, the nickel titanium alloy had to be joined by caulking or brazing after plating. As the stability of the joining strength was low and the design was restricted, Masunaga Optical Mfg. Co., Ltd. started the development of the direct joining method.
By the repeated experiments and analysis by the dedicated engineers for one year, Masunaga Optical Mfg. Co., Ltd. succeeded in directly joining nickel titanium alloy with different types of metal for the first time in the world.
